Jamaica Suk delivers three heady techno cuts on her Establishment Records debut

jamica

Mixmag UK – “Jamaica Suk […] showcases her penchant for the heady side of techno on an excellent cut that pumps along like a steamboat. There’s subtle progression all the way up until the end and an impressive, rather controlled breakdown.”

Jamaica Suk explores organic, hypnotic techno in her new EP for Establishment, “Clockwise.”

Jamaica is no stranger to big-room headliner spots in both the US and Europe, including regular international appearances with red-hot Berlin-based queer collective Pornceptual. Her productions have the drive and power to match, as exhibited on a steady stream of finely-crafted releases on labels like Face to Face, Sub tl, and L.A.G., plus her own vinyl-only label Gradient.

In “Clockwise,” she ventures deeper into grimy analog dreamworlds, without losing any of the momentum and power of her signature sound. The titular track pairs a relentless, explosive kick with fanciful percussion and wind-up mechanics, in detailed dancefloor cinematics. “Two Moons” weaves rich, fuzzy ambience that floats above a thunderous slow groove. “Vision” completes the triptych with a touch of dark whimsy that dances atop more four on the floor action.

Argentinian up-and-comer Pulse One, who has made a name on Polegroup, Dasha Rush’s Fullpanda, and others, adds a massive, energetic remix. His take on “Clockwise” seems ready for a dark, throbbing crowd in Buenos Aires or Berlin.

Jamaica Suk has gone from roots in jazz and metal in the Bay Area to soulful techno, melded with the dark, driving techno sensibilities of her new home Berlin. “Clockwise” arrives just as she packs her summer with headline gigs at festivals like Feel, WHOLE, Milkshake, and others.

Establishment continues to highlight evocative sound reveries that can still connect to the club world. The project of producer/composer/technologist Peter Kirn and his site CDM (cdm.link), the label has interleaved experimental and dance music, and released audiovisual projects and art and science collaborations, with artists like Nicolas Bougaïeff, Miri Kat, and Zeno van den Broek.
